Job Description

Come work at Portland Waldorf School! We are welcoming applications for a Kindergarten Assistant and Camp Teacher for an immediate start date in the 2026-27 school year. This position is an integral part of the school’s Early Childhood and Camp Programs which offer a secure, healthy, and nurturing environment for children with weekly and seasonal rhythms that include circle time, storytelling, creative and active play, and nourishment.

Responsibilities:

· Support Teacher in day-to-day activities of class: engaging groups of children and individuals in painting, coloring, tidying, helping children get dressed, washing, tending to the classroom.

· Supporting children through social interactions during indoor and outdoor play.

· Washing dishes, preparing snacks, stocking supplies.

· Lead afternoon rest time with small group of students and dismiss students to caregivers at pickup.

· General cleaning and tending of the classroom, including: sweeping, vacuuming, dusting.

· Work 23 days of school break camps

· Attend In-Service and Professional Development days

Requirements:

· Licensed with Oregon Central Background Registry.

· At least one year assistant teaching in a classroom of young children.

· Loving interest in the care and education of young children.

· Interest in learning about and commitment to teaching out of the foundations of Waldorf Early Childhood Education.

· Ability to engage with children, take direction from a Lead Teacher regarding classroom management, conflict resolution, and day to day responsibilities.

· Good communication skills, reliable, punctual, well-organized, and efficient.

· Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff to support the mission of Portland Waldorf School.

· Interest in continued personal and professional development, innovation, and renewal

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an annual salary range of $43,680-47,840, depending on education and work experience. Work hours are 8:00am-4:00pm on all school days, camp days, and in-service/professional development days. Benefits offered include health insurance, retirement plan (12 month waiting period), tuition remission, paid vacation time, paid sick time according to Oregon Sick Leave law, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Start date is July 1, 2026, including summer camp work in Summer 2026.
